If you have never been involved in an automobile accident, Auto Insurance may seem like one of those necessary evils. But if you have, you know how important it is to be adequately covered. Uninsured and Underinsured automobile owners and drivers face the possibility of a lawsuit every time their vehicle is driven. Protect your assets and wages by insuring yourself properly BEFORE an accident occurs.
Bodily Injury – covers injured parties when you are responsible for an automobile accident. Limits are automatic at $20,000 (per person) and $40,000 (per accident – regardless of number of parties in the vehicle). This coverage does not apply when a loss occurs out of MA or on private property.
Personal Injury Protection– covers you and your passengers if injured in an automobile accident. Automatic limit of $8,000. This coverage does not apply to drivers or passengers of motorcycles.
Uninsured Motorist Liability– This protects you by extending coverage to injured parties when the ‘at fault’ vehicle does not carry any automobile insurance. Minimal limit is $20,000 (per person)/$40,000 (per accident) but higher limits are available and highly recommended
Property Damage– This covers damage to property owned by someone else, that you are responsible for causing damage to. This may be a car, fence, building etc- anything you cause damage to with your vehicle. Minimal limit required by MA is $5,000 but higher limits are available and highly recommended.
Optional Bodily Injury – This covers the same way as Part 1 but does not exclude non-MA losses or losses occurring on private property. This part is your LAW SUIT PROTECTION, so it is highly recommended to purchase adequate limits.
Medical Payments– This portion of the policy covers the smaller injury claims which can be paid quickly and easily with out dealing with law suits, court hearings etc. This portion is extremely important for motorcycle policies, as it is the replacement for Part 2.
Collision– this portion of the policy will pay for damages to your vehicle if you are involved in an auto accident, regardless of fault. Multiple deductibles are available to lessen the premium for this portion- but keep in mind whichever deductible is chosen would be deducted from all damage claims before payment is made!
Limited Collision– This is similar to collision, but will only pay when you are NOT considered the ‘at fault’ party in an auto accident.
Comprehensive – This part covers glass, fire, theft, items falling on a vehicle, animals running into a vehicle etc. It is basically to cover the damages that you have NO control over. Multiple deductibles are available, but do not apply to glass.
Substitute Transportation– This coverage will cover a rental vehicle or other substitute transportation (such as bus or taxi fare) while your vehicle is being repaired after an auto loss.
Tow– this covers the cost of having your vehicle towed if undrivable for any reason. The options available for tow coverage are $50 per tow, or $100 per tow.
Underinsured Motorist Liability– This coverage is similar to Part 3, but extends when the at fault party does not carry ENOUGH insurance.
